Level 3 Clipper Training – Gale winds and a torn main sail

The week started with blowing a gale and our first introduction to the complete watch system. This watch system will become our lives for the next 11 months as we circumnavigate the world sleeping no longer than 3-4 hours at a time. This was also the week that we held the projectile vomit contest with 70% of the crew getting friendly with the leeward rail as they feed the fishes.

Force 8 winds, engine fail, Coastal Skipper prep and Rotary Presentations

Well, lots has been going on lately and I am sorry for the delay in the blog postings – technology dramas…. So last week I was out completing the long distance sail as part of my Yacht Master Fast track. The idea of this week was for us to skipper and pilot passages of over 60 nautical miles around the English Channel. During the week we sailed across the English Channel with the intention of reaching Sark. We were told that Sark was a really traditional island without any roads and where the locals still get around using horse and cart as there mode of transport.
